My professional journey has naturally aligned with my role on the Columbia-WHO Center for Global Mental Health International Advisory Board. I have been a full-time clinical psychologist in private practice in New York City for over 30 years. My work involves consultation, evaluation, and psychotherapy with children, adolescents, families, and adults. I have also been a visiting faculty member in the Applied Psychology and Human Development Program of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, where I taught classes in psychodynamic psychotherapy and supervised graduate students in their clinical internships.
Throughout my career, I have served on several boards, including the Board of the Graduate School of Education and the Board of the Kelly Writers House, where I am the current co-chair, at the University of Pennsylvania. I am also a member of the Trustees Council of Penn Women of the University of Pennsylvania where I was the co-chair of the Faculty Gender Equity Committee. I also served on the Board of Trustees of the Dalton School and chaired the Trustees Committee on Admissions and Scholarships.
I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research. I am married to Emilio Bassini who is from Guatemala and together we have lived in Mexico City where I worked in a residential psychiatric treatment center. We have three children and two grandchildren.
